Dental implants in Vancouver | Everything you need to know!

We often get asked about dental implants here at our Kerrisdale dental clinic. Tooth loss can occur for several reasons including a dental trauma, accident or gum disease. Missing teeth are not only unsightly, but can also interfere with a patient’s ability to speak, chew and eat comfortably. In addition, when a tooth is missing the surrounding teeth can gradually shift out of alignment, and over time the jaw can shrink and become misshapen. The good news is that there are a number of ways to replace them. Dental implants can be used  to replace one or more missing teeth.

The term ‘ dental implant’ actually refers to the titanium screw that is implanted in the jawbone where the root of the missing tooth used to be. Once the implant is fixed into place it will serve as an anchor for the prosthetic tooth. The artificial tooth is custom created in a dental lab to look and feel like a real tooth. It is fashioned to blend in seamlessly with the remaining teeth, so the only person who know that you have an implant is you (and your dentist)!

When multiple teeth in a row are missing, dental implants can be used to anchor a fixed bridge into place. While dental implants can yield some impressive results it is important to be aware that the process can take several visits over the course of months. Most of our patients would agree that the results are well worth the wait!

In order to be a good candidate for dental implants you must be  in good general health and have healthy enough gums and  jawbones to hold an implant. If you are missing one or more teeth and are wondering if dental implants might be right for you please contact us to schedule a consultation with Dr. Michael Pauls at our friendly Kerrisdale dental clinic.
