5 Signs that you need to see your dentist
While we recommend that all our patients visit us twice a year for a cleaning and exam, we understand that Vancouver life can be hectic. However, if you’re experiencing any of the following five signs, it’s probably time you book an appointment with your friendly Vancouver dentist, Dr. Michael Pauls.
It’s been a while
Even if your teeth look and feel beautiful, trouble could be brewing beneath the surface. In fact, many patients are surprised to find out that they have several cavities. In fact, decay usually doesn’t cause discomfort until its thick. Likewise, the early symptoms of gum disease are often silent. So if it has been so long since your last appointment that you can’t even remember, you’d best come us as soon as you can.
You’re hiding your smile
If your teeth are yellowed or stained, or if you have chipped, cracked or missing teeth, you may be reluctant to show off your smile.
You have a toothache
This may seem obvious, but if you have a toothache it’s time to book an appointment with your dentist ASAP. While there are folk remedies out there claiming to cure a toothache, these remedies will only provide temporary relief at best.
Your gums are bleeding
If plaque has built up it can irritate the gums, which can cause bleeding, especially when flossing. Bleeding gums can be an early warning sign of gingivitis, which can lead to gum disease if left untreated.
If you’re pregnant or planning on conceiving, its important that you incorporate oral healthcare into your wellness plan. The reason for this is that pregnancy hormones can exacerbate existing dental issues and put you at increased risk for gum disease. Poor oral health has been linked to preterm birth, so we recommend that all expectant mothers visit their dentist at least once during their pregnancy.
If you are looking for a new dentist in Vancouver, feel free to call or come by. We would be happy to schedule you in.
